TORONTO, June 17, 2008 (AFP) - Three-time Stanley Cup winner Igor Larionov heads the list of inductees to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
After winning eight consecutive Russian League championships with CSKA Moscow and Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988, Larionov signed with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League in 1989.
"It is very touching to know that I will be celebrating one of the top accomplishments in my hockey career by being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame," Larionov said.
Larionov was a member of three Stanley Cup teams in Detroit in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
Former Edmonton Oilers forward Glenn Anderson, junior hockey executive and club owner Ed Chynoweth and referee Ray Scapinello were also elected.
Larionov also played on the Soviet national team at the 1981, 1984 and 1987 Canada Cups, winning the title in 1981.
After three seasons in Vancouver (1989-92) and three more in San Jose (1993-96), Larionov played for eight seasons in Detroit from 1996-2003. He ended his career with the New Jersey Devils in 2003-04.
Anderson, of Canada, played 11 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, winning five Stanley Cups from 1984-1990 and another with the New York Rangers in 1994.
Posthumously elected to the Hall of Fame in the builder´s category was Chynoweth, who served as the president of the Western Hockey League from 1972-1996.
Scapinello officiated 20 Stanley Cup Finals and 2,500 regular-season games.
