Ice Hockey: Jagr keen on Czech return

Written by:

PRAGUE, July 18, 2008 (AFP) - Veteran Czech ice hockey star Jaromir Jagr is keen to play for the national team again, he told the Czech daily Sport on Friday.

"I have thought about it a lot. I would certainly like to return," the star striker said.

But Jagr, who helped the Czechs win gold in the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, and take first place in the 2005 World Championships said there were still factors blocking his comeback.

"For instance there is (my) poor form. I must have that and know that I would make a contribution," he added.

After the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin Jagr came to believe he was getting too old to combine an NHL league season with international competition.

"But I would like to say that I now have a desire to play for the national team," he explained.

Jagr´s comments have fuelled speculation that he could compete in both the 2009 World Championships and the Vancouver, Canada, 2010 Winter Olympics.
