TAMPA, Florida, July 11, 2008 (AFP) - Jay Feaster resigned as general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning here on Friday, unhappy with his role as bosses and assistants handled a flurry of National Hockey League moves.
Feaster spent six years in the post, helping guide Tampa Bay´s 2004 Stanley Cup championship run, but the Lightning signed 16 free agents and named Barry Melrose as coach since June 25.
Co-owners Len Barrie and Oren Koules and assistant general manager Brian Lawton executed the moves with Feaster little more than a spectator.
"For the past two weeks I have watched from the sidelines as Brian Lawton, Len Barrie and Oren Koules executed to perfection the game plan they shared with us prior to the NHL Draft in Ottawa," Feaster said.
"During that time it became apparent to me that this new ownership group did not need my advice or expertise, and I came to the conclusion that it was time to move on."
