Demitra signs with Canucks

Written by:

VANCOUVER, Canada, July 10, 2008 (AFP) - The Vancouver Canucks signed free-agent right wing Pavol Demitra of Slovakia and defenceman Rob Davison.

Davison inked a one-year, 560,000 dollars deal, while the terms of Demitra´s contract were not disclosed.

However, TSN of Canada is reporting on Thursday that Demitra will receive eight million over two years.

Demitra has recorded 281 goals and 418 assists in 750 career games with the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild, with whom he spent the last two seasons.

However, the 33-year-old scored just 15 goals for the Wild last campaign, his lowest total since 996-97. His 54 points were the fewest since recording 45 in 44 games with the St. Louis Blues in 2000-01.

Demitra brings 14 seasons of experience to the Canucks, who lost free-agent forwards Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison to free agency earlier this month.
